Tehran, Caracas to set up innovation center to export Iran’s technological achievements to Latin America

Iran and Venezuela are set to establish a joint innovation center in Caracas as a conduit for transferring the Iranian technological achievements to Latin America, the head of the Organization for the Development of International Cooperation in Science and Technology announced.

Amir Hossein Mirabadi told the information center of the Iranian vice president’s office for science, technology and knowledge-based economy that the move is in line with the incumbent Iranian administration’s policy of launching centers that can present Iran’s technological capabilities in neighboring, friendly and allied countries.

The late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi signed a deal to inaugurate the joint center during a visit to Caracas last year.

Mirabadi said, “In terms of model and structure, this center will operate similar to the Iranian House of Innovation and Technology (iHiT), but this time it will be established in the heart of Latin America with the participation of Venezuelans, and will be a basis for the supply of Iran’s knowledge-based, technological and creative capabilities.”

The center has been named “Iran-Venezuela Joint Innovation and Technology Center”, Mirabadi said.

He explained, based on the agreement, the Venezuelan government will hand over a building to the Iranian Vice Presidential Office for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy for 15 years.

The center will establish a permanent exhibition of knowledge-based products and advanced technologies in Venezuela and will serve as the headquarters for Iranian knowledge-based companies that work on projects in Venezuela. It will also hold joint training courses by Iranian experts for Venezuelan peers.
