Iran collaborates with Syria to launch biotech companies

A 30-member delegation of Syrian researchers, including doctors, academics, and university leaders from Damascus and Sham universities, visited Iran’s Biotechnology Research Institute to discuss collaborative efforts in establishing knowledge-based companies.

Javad Mohammadi, head of the institute, expressed his pleasure at the delegation’s visit, stating, “Our institute is a hub for genetic engineering and biotechnology in Iran and the region.”

“We are engaged in cutting-edge scientific activities to meet the needs of Iran and neighboring regions,” he added.

During the visit, Mohammadi highlighted several of the institute’s key projects, such as early cancer detection, gene-edited disease model animals, salt-tolerant grain cultivation, probiotics, and the development of diagnostic kits and vaccines for human and animal health, including HPV and influenza vaccines.

He emphasized the institute’s role as a mission-driven center, making significant strides in the commercialization of science and technology.

“We are ready to share our expertise in establishing knowledge-based companies, and we welcome student and professor exchange programs, as well as collaborative projects with Syrian universities,” Mohammadi said.

The collaboration aims to strengthen scientific and technological ties between Iran and Syria, fostering innovation and research in the biotechnology sector.
