Iranian VP underlines determination of knowledge-based companies to make express trains

Iranian Vice President for Science and Technology Hossein Afshin has underlined the importance of domestic production, saying the next objective of Iran is to localize high-speed train manufacturing.
He was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the National Ram Train, involving more than 40 knowledge-based companies. This event coincided with Research and Technology Week and was attended by key officials, including Tehran’s mayor, Alireza Zakani.
Vice President for Science and Technology Hossein Afshin further reflected on his long-standing involvement with the National Ram Train initiative, recalling his early contributions to technology transfer in 2006.
He noted that the project aims to reduce reliance on foreign technology while maximizing local capabilities.
The financial backing for this ambitious endeavor amounts to $70 million, with approximately $30 million already secured. The project has reached a significant milestone with the production line for the national subway train officially launched, targeting the completion of two seven-car trains by year-end.
The initiative is expected to create 12,000 direct jobs and achieve an impressive 85% localization rate in manufacturing subway components.
The successful implementation of this project marks a pivotal step towards advancing Iran’s rail industry and enhancing its transportation infrastructure.
