Iran to launch open-source AI platform with government support

The Iranian Vice President for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy has announced the launch of an open-source artificial intelligence (AI) platform, according to the Communications and Information Center of the Vice-Presidency.

During the inauguration of the Shariati Combined Cycle Power Plant’s smart monitoring center, Hossein Afshin explained that the initiative invites knowledge-based companies to participate in the project, offering financial support and incentive programs from the government.

He emphasized that the country is making a major leap towards self-sufficiency and keeping pace with global advancements.

Afshin noted the strategic approach of utilizing and localizing successful global models, introducing the open-source AI infrastructure as a promising new chapter.

The Iranian vice president elaborated that the initiative is built on scientific principles aligned with contemporary global models, aiming to establish a unique platform through open-source development.

Highlighting the importance of human resources as the country’s greatest asset, he encouraged all AI specialists and knowledge-based companies to join the effort, emphasizing national collaboration as a cornerstone for the platform’s development.

The open-source AI platform is designed to be a public resource, benefiting both experts and the general public.

Afshin also mentioned ongoing projects in health and energy markets, underlining AI’s dynamic nature and the need for continuous updates. The long-term vision includes partnerships with 13 universities to foster AI innovation, supported by government funding.
