Iran produces advanced ecobrass alloy at one-third of global price

An Iranian knowledge-based company has successfully developed a low-lead brass alloy, Ecobrass, significantly improving water quality and consumer health while offering a cost-effective alternative at just one-third of the global price.

According to the Communications and Public Relations Center of the Vice Presidency for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy, the knowledge-based company “Paya Darafsh Iranian” has become the first in Iran to produce Ecobrass based on ASTM B371 and ASTM B981 standards. This achievement is a crucial step toward minimizing lead contamination in drinking water and enhancing public health.

Ali Fallah Amirshahi, CEO of the company, stated that integrating Ecobrass into plumbing fixtures will significantly reduce lead exposure in household drinking water. The alloy boasts exceptional mechanical properties, including high strength, excellent machinability, outstanding wear resistance, superior creep resistance, and remarkable corrosion resistance, making it an ideal choice for various industries.

Amirshahi noted that until 2015, only 26 companies worldwide possessed the capability to produce Ecobrass through a combined separation method.

He explained that manufacturing this alloy requires a calcium-silicon-based additive and a specialized fluxing agent, with the primary challenge being the necessity for an oxygen-free calcium-silicon compound.
