Domestic innovation bridges digital divide in Iran: Knowledge-based company expands rural internet access

An Iranian knowledge-based company has taken a significant step toward expanding rural internet access and providing communication services to underserved areas by locally producing Baseband Units (BBUs).

According to the Communications and Information Center of the Iranian Vice Presidency for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy, the innovation facilitates wireless services such as voice, messaging, and internet connectivity in rural regions, addressing the digital divide.

Ali Akbar Tadayon, the CEO of the knowledge-based company, Farabin, announced the production of the domestically developed BBU.

He explained that the product, designed and manufactured in compliance with global LTE standards, plays a crucial role in enhancing the country’s fourth-generation (4G) mobile networks.

The BBU enables high-speed processing and transmission of wireless data, ensuring faster and more reliable services.

Tadayon highlighted BBU722’s ability to support a large number of simultaneous users while delivering standard download and upload services across operators’ frequency bands, in line with international standards.

Emphasizing the BBU’s vital role in telecommunications infrastructure, Tadayon outlined its applications in mobile networks, rural internet development, Internet of Things (IoT) infrastructure, emergency services, and disaster relief.

He added that the product offers continuous service updates, seamless functionality, easy installation, and flexibility for use in various environments and scenarios.
