Advanced nanotechnology holds 11 trillion rial market in Iran

The use of advanced nanotechnology in the healthcare sector has created a market worth 11 trillion rials in Iran, with drug delivery holding a leading 40% share in this burgeoning market, according to the information center of the office of the Iranian Vice Presidency for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy.

The report says the application of nanoparticles and innovative technologies in health has not only improved product quality but also established a significant market.

Statistics from the Nanotechnology Development Headquarters indicate that the nano market in Iran’s health and hygiene sector reached 11 trillion rials at the start of the Persian year of 1403 (starting March 20, 2024), encompassing prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.

Nanotechnology products in health and hygiene are generally categorized into three segments. The “prevention” segment accounts for 51% of the market, employing nanotechnologies to enhance immunity, reduce infections, and improve preventive processes.

The “treatment” segment, comprising 45% of the market, includes applications such as drug delivery, tissue repair, and improved medical treatments.

The “diagnosis” segment holds the smallest share, namely 4%. Using nanocarriers allows drugs to target specific tissues directly while avoiding adverse effects on healthy cells. This feature is particularly crucial for treating cancer and chronic diseases.
