Russian GPS alternative unveiled at INOTEX 2025, marking new era in Iran-Russia tech cooperation

At the INOTEX 2025 exhibition, Russian tech firm Geopixel unveiled its indigenous navigation system designed as an alternative to GPS, signaling a significant step forward in Iran-Russia technological collaboration.
Geopixel’s Iranian representative, Abed Amiri, announced the company’s plan to transfer its non-satellite-based navigation technology to Iran, the Communication and Information Center of the Iranian Vice Presidency for Science reported.
The system leverages sensors, radio signals, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things (IoT) to offer precise navigation and mapping services independent of traditional satellite infrastructure.
“GPS systems are geopolitically restricted and not always fully accessible in countries like Iran and Russia,” said Amiri. “Our system offers reliable and cost-effective alternatives without satellite dependency.”
The technology has diverse applications, from smart agriculture and city planning to factory personnel management and hospital logistics.
In certain Russian factories where mobile devices are banned, the system is already being used for secure communication and staff tracking.
Geopixel aims to localize this technology in Iran through partnerships with domestic firms, supporting the growth of local smart positioning startups.
Amiri praised INOTEX 2025 for its vibrant innovation ecosystem and expressed hope for long-term collaboration.
“Iran has immense tech potential. We’re excited to help scale next-gen navigation solutions here,” he concluded.
