Iran unveils phase two of WRFM smart oilfield management system

Iran has officially launched the second phase of its integrated Well, Reservoir, and Facility Management (WRFM) system, aimed at digitalizing oilfield operations, with Vice President for Science and Technology Hossein Afshin attending the unveiling ceremony during the Tehran International Oil, Gas, Refining and Petrochemical Exhibition.

As reported by the Communications and Information Center of the Vice Presidency, the event was held at the booth of Pasargad Energy Group, which is leading the project.

According to Afshin, the new phase includes advanced production, drilling, and reservoir management tools, incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) to improve decision-making and operational efficiency.

“In the previous phase, we launched the BI (Business Intelligence) component, and now we are moving towards AI. For this, we need consolidated data,” Afshin stated, emphasizing the system’s potential to transform Iran’s upstream oil sector.

He announced that Pasargad Energy has committed to completing Iran’s first fully digital refinery, located in Qeshm, by next year.

Afshin also noted that Russian presidential aide Andrei Fursenko, during his visit to Iran, was impressed by Iran’s progress in applying AI technologies in energy, especially the WRFM project.

The WRFM system allows real-time monitoring of field activities and aims to reduce decision-making time significantly. The second phase adds intelligent automation for managing drilling and production systems.
