Iranian VP announces significant progress in government AI assistant project with universities

Iran’s Vice President for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy Hossein Afshin has announced satisfactory progress in the government’s AI assistant project during a meeting for the presentation of university-led AI initiatives.
He stressed that the project could pave the way for smart governance in Iran.
The meeting, held on August 16, 2025, was hosted by the office of the vice president. During the session, universities presented some of their achievements in implementing AI assistants for government executive agencies.
Afshin said the project focuses on both training skilled human resources and promoting a culture of intelligent decision-making within executive structures.
The initiative officially began about five months ago, involving 14 universities, and has already made significant progress.
The project is structured in four phases: first, integrating laws, regulations, and guidelines into the AI assistant; second, uploading specialized data from ministries; third, data prediction and modeling; and finally, validation of results.
Each university project is funded with approximately 13–15 billion rials, with about 70% of activities currently using domestic models. Afshin also announced a free AI training program for two million students and 200,000 teachers.
