Iranian knowledge-based company produces rapid milk contamination detection kits

An Iranian knowledge-based company has successfully designed and produced a rapid test kit for detecting aflatoxin M1 in milk, enabling contamination to be identified in less than five minutes with high accuracy.

According to the office of Iran’s vice president for science, technology and knowledge-based economy, CEO of Danesh Pajouhan Fartak Tebb Company said the locally developed kit can detect the presence or absence of aflatoxin M1 in milk with an accuracy of 0.5 nanograms per milliliter, in line with European and international standards. Mohdeseh Haji Abdolvahab noted that the product has now entered the commercial phase and has been approved by several major dairy companies.

She spoke about the importance of monitoring aflatoxin in milk, saying when livestock feed is contaminated with aflatoxin B1, the toxin is metabolized in the animal’s body and converted into aflatoxin M1, which is then transferred to milk and poses serious health risks to consumers.
Haji Abdolvahab noted that accurate detection of this toxin plays a vital role in the food industry and in enhancing national food safety and public health. She added that in addition to its high quality, the domestically produced kits are priced 15 to 20 percent lower than foreign alternatives and are more easily accessible to customers due to local production.
