Official: Iran planning to have greater international sci-tech engagement

A senior Iranian official says the country has plans for closer international interactions in the domain of science and technology.
“At the Center for International Scientific and Technological Interactions of the [Presidential Office’s] Department for Science, Research and Knowledge-Based Economy, we have put our agenda on plans to reinforce past markets and establish international engagement,” said Amirhossein Mirabadi, the director of the center.
“Hence, ‘sharing technology and exchanging experts’ and ‘boosting production through markets and transferring them to new markets’ are two key issues that we pursue at the center,” he noted.
The official then touched upon the science and technology diplomacy, adding, “the issue of diplomacy and, in one sense, international dialog, is one of the areas that all countries seriously pursue.”
“The greater a country’s diplomacy and negotiation power, the better achievements it will have in international arenas,” he explained.
He added the Presidential Office’s Department for Science, Research and Knowledge-Based Economy is formally pursuing the issue of knowledge-based economy.
“The reason for this shift, i.e., moving from an economy based on resources to one based on science and technology is that the added value created by science and technology in economy is way higher than that created by selling raw materials,” he said.
