Iran ranks 34th among world’s top sci-tech clusters

Iran stands in the 34th spot in the global science and technology cluster ranking.

In its 2023 report, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has put Iran among the world’s top 100 science and technology clusters.

Based on the report, Iran has the highest rank on the list among countries in South and Central Asia.

Since 2017, WIPO has been reviewing the potential for innovation in different cities and regions across the world on an annual basis and ranks them as part of its annual report on global innovation index.

Science and technology clusters play a key role in boosting countries’ innovation performance.

They create an ecosystem by bringing together knowhow, businesses and entrepreneurs in order to make scientific ideas operational.

The Science and Technology (S&T) Cluster ranking of the Global Innovation Index identifies local concentrations of world-leading science and technology activity.

S&T clusters are established through the analysis of patent-filing activity and scientific article publication, documenting the geographical areas around the world with the highest density of inventors and scientific authors.
