Iranian vice president stresses need for modern scientific infrastructure

The Iranian vice president for science, technology, and knowledge-based economy has underlined the need to develop modern national laboratories to push a scientific leap and further establish the country’s scientific authority. 

Hossein Afshin made the remarks in a speech at the Scientific Council of the Academy of Sciences, the Communications and Information Center of the vice presidency reported. 

He highlighted the establishment of independent and well-equipped national laboratories in various scientific fields as a critical program, saying they can operate under a board of trustees and provide research services to scientists across the country. 

Afshin noted that models like the Max Planck Society in Germany could serve as an inspiration for the laboratories. 

He stressed, “Achieving a scientific leap and becoming a scientific authority requires precise planning, effective investment, and coordination between universities, research centers, and the government.” 

Afshin concluded that such initiatives could significantly transform the country’s science and technology landscape, laying the groundwork for substantial advancements and fostering a vibrant scientific community.
