Iranian President Pezeshkian: Science, Technology Department tasked with removing AI obstacles

Iran’s President Massoud Pezeshkian has reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, according to the Center for Communications and Information of the Vice Presidency for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Technology.
President Pezeshkian said that the Department of Science and Technology is tasked with collaborating with AI experts in universities, academies, research institutes, and the parliament to complete comprehensive studies on AI.
The studies are to be presented for policy-making and legislation to the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution and the relevant parliamentary committee, he noted.
President Pezeshkian instructed the Department of Science and Technology to engage with AI specialists to complete detailed studies and present them to the Supreme Council and parliamentary committee for legislative action.
The Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution held a meeting on Tuesday evening, presided over by President Pezeshkian to focus on examining various aspects of AI, its challenges, and the necessary measures for its development.
President Pezeshkian highlighted the intense global competition in AI, stating that any delay in developing AI technology would be detrimental to the country.
He emphasized the need to closely monitor global AI developments and take steps in policy-making, legislation, and addressing challenges.
