Iran needs to boost its share of medicinal plants market

Iran’s share of the global herbal medicine market is over 150 million dollars but it is far from the status the Islamic Republic deserves, the secretary of the Committee for the Development of Sciences and Technologies of Medicinal Plants and Traditional Medicine says.

Addressing the opening ceremony of the sixth national festival and exhibition of medicinal plants and traditional medicine that kicked off on Tuesday in the Iranian capital Tehran, Mehdi Seif Sahandi said, “Iran’s share is only half a percent (of the world market), while the expertise and knowledge to develop this field in the country is much higher.”

240 knowledge-based, creative and technology companies have taken part in this year’s festival to put their capabilities and products on display, Sahandi said.

Foreign companies and delegates, including those from Russia, Serbia, Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, Oman, Gambia, have taken part in the event.
