Iran to establish second AI processing hub in Kish Island

A tripartite agreement was signed between the Vice Presidency for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy, Kish Free Zone Organization, and Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company to establish and develop a hub for advanced technologies, including digital economy and artificial intelligence, in Kish Island, southern Iran. 

According to the Vice Presidency’s Communications and Information Center, the agreement was formalized during the second Iran Petrochem Conference on January 11, 2025, at Kish International Conference Center. 

The agreement was signed by Hossein Afshin, Vice President for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy; Mohammad Shariatmadari, CEO of Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company; and Mohammad Jafar Kabiri, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Kish Free Zone Organization. 

This collaboration aims to transform Kish Free Zone into a hub for technology and innovation in the digital economy and AI. 

The initiative emphasizes sustainable development, job creation, and enhancing Iran’s scientific and industrial standing on regional and international levels. 

Key goals include fostering scientific, technological, and industrial collaboration; advancing cutting-edge digital economy technologies and AI; supporting aerospace and petrochemical industries; and creating a centralized hub for addressing the technological needs of the petrochemical sector.
