Iranian company develops hydraulic knee joint at one-third the price of foreign models

An Iranian knowledge-based company has succeeded in producing an advanced knee joint using the IR60 hydraulic technology. That’s according to the office of the Iranian Vice-President for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy.

The innovative product is said to offer a cost-effective solution to enhance mobility and daily activities for individuals with above-knee amputations.

It is also priced significantly lower than foreign alternatives, which can cost two to three times more.

Reza Iranpour, CEO of Tavanbakhsh Teb Fartak Company, noted that the IR60 technology allows users to control the speed of movement during flexion and extension phases separately.

Iranpour also said the lightweight design gives this product a competitive edge in the market.

Meantime, the EBS mechanism integrated into the joint manages secondary flexion and stability when transitioning to a standing position.

The advanced technology not only reduces energy consumption while walking but also minimizes impact felt in the residual limb, pelvis, and spine.

With foreign models exceeding 400 million tomans in price, the Iranian product is available for just 120 million tomans. Tavanbakhsh Teb Fartak Company has a production capacity of 40 knee joints per year.
