VP: Robust AI infrastructure put in place in Iran

Iranian Vice President for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy, Hossein Afshin, has announced the establishment of a robust computational infrastructure for the development of artificial intelligence in the country.
Afshin said his office allocated a significant portion of its resources in the year 1403 to purchasing Graphics Processing Units (GPUs).
He announced the launch of an artificial intelligence platform in collaboration with one of the universities, adding that 12 universities and nearly 20 knowledge-based companies are already connected to the platform.
The vice president was speaking with members of the education commission of the Iranian parliament about ways of setting priorities for the knowledge-based committee of parliament in order to realize the slogan of the year 1404, namely “Investment in Production”, as designated by the leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution.
Referring to the designation of 2025 as the year of photonics globally, Afshin said the office of the vice president for science and
technology will focus on quantum, photonics, and artificial intelligence this year.
He added that the Quantum Council recently convened a session with President Masoud Pezeshkian in attendance, and that his office has been tasked with presenting a comprehensive quantum program for the country by June 21, 2025. According to the vice president, efforts are being made to identify Iran’s capabilities in various quantum areas, including sensors, quantum computing, and communications.
