Iran unveils locally-made coronary balloon, halves import costs

Iranian knowledge-based company MadZist Fanavar International has successfully developed a non-compliant (NC) coronary balloon catheter, marking a significant step toward medical self-sufficiency and saving up to 50% in foreign currency typically spent on imports.

According to the Information and Communication Center of the Iranian Vice Presidency for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy, the device is used in coronary angioplasty procedures to treat blocked arteries.

Each year, Iran imports around 450,000 balloon catheters, of which 30,000 are NC types, valued for their ability to maintain shape under high pressure.

The NC balloon catheter developed by MadZist is designed to resist deformation during high-pressure inflation, enabling cardiologists to precisely open stubborn arterial blockages. It is especially useful when higher pressure is required or for post-stent expansion to improve vessel patency.

The company, focused on the local production of advanced medical technologies, aims not only to meet domestic demand but also to generate export capacity in the near future.
