Iran, Russia launch 2nd joint research grant call for bilateral scientific cooperation

The National Science Foundation of Iran and the Russian Science Foundation have announced their second joint research funding call, inviting proposals for up to ten collaborative projects between Iranian and Russian research teams. The initiative aims to expand strategic scientific collaboration in high-priority areas of mutual interest.
The joint call focuses on research in life sciences — including biology, biotechnology, and microbiology (excluding clinical medicine) — as well as materials science, with a particular emphasis on smart materials, biomaterials, superconductors, rare minerals, and battery technology. Additionally, the call supports proposals in the field of health and medical research, especially projects addressing emerging challenges through interdisciplinary approaches.
Eligible participants from Iran include faculty members at recognized universities and accredited research institutions. Iranian applicants may submit proposals between April 20 and June 19, 2025. Results will be announced in early January 2026, with selected projects scheduled to begin later that same month.
Each approved Iranian proposal may receive up to 30 billion rials in funding over a maximum three-year period. The RSF will independently fund the Russian counterparts to ensure parity and continuity in bilateral engagement.
To assist researchers, the National Science Foundation has made detailed information available on its website (rscf.ru/en/contests). This call represents an important step toward deepening scientific ties between Iran and Russia, advancing technological development, and promoting sustained research cooperation across key sectors.
