Iran unveils first domestically-developed AI hardware processor

In a significant technological breakthrough, an Iranian knowledge-based company has successfully designed and developed the country’s first domestically-made artificial intelligence (AI) hardware processor, offering a domestic alternative to foreign-made systems for advanced image, video, and robotics processing.

According to the Vice Presidency for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy, the processor was developed by BartarSazan Sanaye Electronik Majid (BASAM), a startup affiliated with the International Innovation Region’s Elite Technology Incubator.

Company CEO, Majid Pazireh, stated that the AI processor delivers a minimum of 20 billion operations per second and is built on Xilinx UltraScale and AMD platforms.
It is optimized for real-time AI applications in fields such as robotics, non-operational defense, telecommunications, medical technologies, and security.

Designed to operate in environments where large servers are impractical, the compact system aims to reduce reliance on foreign imports and meet domestic demand in key industries.

Pazireh acknowledged marketing and project acquisition as key challenges, noting that BASAM is working with the Innovation Region’s incubator to expand its customer base and introduce the product into wider industrial use.
