Iran launches domestic production of one million kilowatts of solar inverters in major localization push

Iran has initiated large-scale domestic production of one million kilowatts of solar power inverters, a strategic step aimed at reducing reliance on imported equipment in the country’s electricity sector.

The Vice-Presidency for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy reported the announcement coincided with the 25th International Electricity Industry Exhibition in Tehran.

The project is being implemented through the national “First-Time Production” initiative, designed to localize critical components across the power industry.

The Deputy for Development of Knowledge-Based Companies, Touraj Amraei, said the vice-presidency had conducted a two-month assessment to identify capable technology firms for the program.

He noted that the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization (SATBA) has committed to procuring one million kilowatts of Iranian-made on-grid and hybrid inverters from a consortium of five knowledge-based companies through a guaranteed purchase contract.

The agreement, signed between the scientific vice-presidency, SATBA and the consortium, marks the largest “first-time production” project in Iran’s electricity industry to date.

Additionally, seven more agreements were signed to localize key technologies in electricity generation and the national transmission network in cooperation with Tavanir.

Officials say the contracts will significantly strengthen long-term self-sufficiency and reduce dependence on foreign equipment in strategic segments of the power sector.
