Vice-pres. for science, tech, knowledge-based economy emphasizes focus on student development, political neutrality

Hossein Afshin, the new Iranian Vice President for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy, highlighted the strategic approach of the Vice Presidency during his address at the introduction ceremony on Tuesday.

Afshin stressed the importance of avoiding political disputes and focusing on enhancing the nation’s scientific and technological capabilities.

He announced that a dedicated section within the Vice Presidency will be established to focus on student development, recognizing students as the driving force behind the country’s future human capital and innovation.

Afshin emphasized that creativity and development begin in childhood, and thus, special attention must be given to this sector.

The Vice President reaffirmed the principle of political neutrality, noting that neither of his predecessors, Sorena Sattari and Rouhollah Dehghani, engaged in political conflicts during their tenures.

He stated that the Vice Presidency’s role is to serve as a strategic partner for government ministries, avoiding direct management roles, and instead acting as a think tank and innovation enabler.

Afshin concluded by expressing his commitment to continuing this approach, with the Vice Presidency playing a pivotal role in advancing the government’s scientific and technological agenda.
