Iran’s Scientific VP says to increase Iranian universities’ research fund

Iran’s vice president for science, technology and knowledge-based economy says plans are underway to increase financial support for research projects at Iranian universities through tax exemption and providing supplies, the information center of the vice president’s office reported.
In the reopening ceremony of the prestigious Elm-o Sanaat (Science and Technology) University in Tehran in the new academic year, Hossein Afshin said all of the universities in Iran will receive tax credits of up to 200 billion tomans (3.3 million dollars).
Afshin expressed hope that through the financing, academic centers in the country will soon witness an improvement in providing facilities and equipment.
He also noted that based on Articles 11, 13 of the Law on Leap in Knowledge-Based Production, any company that signs a research and development contract with universities or provides them with infrastructural facilities can enjoy tax exemption.
The vice president stressed that in the new plan, basic sciences and emerging technologies will have a special place in the financial grant and facilitating laboratory equipment.
Prior to the reopening ceremony, Afshin visited two health-related projects at the Research and Innovation Center of the Elm-o Sanaat University and promised his office would supply the needed equipment to run the projects.
