The second International Nanotechnology Olympiad has officially commenced in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur, featuring participants from Iran, Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Malaysia.

According to the Communications and Information Center of the Iranian Vice Presidency for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy, this year’s Olympiad focuses on global challenges in the application of nanotechnology for the development and production of renewable energy sources, including wind, solar, nuclear, hydrogen fuel, tidal, geothermal, and biomass energy.

Afshin Ramzi, the director of the Permanent Secretariat of the International Nanotechnology Olympiad and the head of the Iranian team, stated that Iranian students Nima Dehghan and Hamid Reza Ghorbani from Isfahan University of Technology, along with two advisors, will present their projects on renewable energy at the Olympiad.

Participants have two days to present their research projects addressing global challenges. The winners will be announced, and awards will be presented during the closing ceremony on Monday.

The first Olympiad, held in 2018, was hosted by Iran at Pardis Technology Park, with teams from eight countries.

Iran has established the governing rules for the Olympiad and formed a steering committee, managed by Tehran.

The permanent secretariat of the Olympiad is based in Tehran.
