Sharif university, natl. Petrochemical company to advance AI in oil, petrochemical industries

The Iranian Vice Presidency for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy facilitated a tripartite agreement between Sharif University of Technology, the National Petrochemical Company, and the Vice Presidency itself.

Hossein Afshin, Vice President for Science and Technology emphasized during the signing ceremony the vital opportunities provided by the Knowledge-Based Production Leap Law, highlighting its role in fostering a robust connection between academia and industry. 

He also pointed to the importance of the National AI Platform, a project spearheaded by Sharif University, which currently engages around 80 academic members and researchers. 

Afshin announced that the first phase of this initiative is set for unveiling by the end of March, noting its potential to drive significant innovations in industrial operations. 

He revealed that approximately 10 trillion tomans have been invested in the project, with an anticipated peak return over the next 40 to 50 years.

Seyed Abbas Mousavi, President of Sharif University, expressed optimism that this agreement would mark the beginning of a fruitful partnership, leveraging the capabilities of Sharif’s electronics and energy research institutes. 

Mousavi also voiced confidence in the contributions of the university’s AI research centers to the petrochemical industry, envisioning substantial advancements in the near future.
