Iran first vice president highlights AI development efforts

Iran’s Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref has highlighted the pivotal role of the country’s scientific and technological vice presidency in fostering the development of artificial intelligence (AI), according to the Communications and Information Center of the Vice Presidency for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy.
Speaking at a meeting attended by key government officials, including the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Aref emphasized the importance of planning, policymaking, and infrastructure development for AI.
Aref noted that past challenges in introducing technology to the country have been mitigated through the strategic support of the Leader.
He credited academia, especially the Academy of Sciences, for their contributions in drafting essential documents and articles that underscore the significance of AI.
These efforts have shaped decisions made by the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution, focusing on forming a central task force and a Supreme Council dedicated to AI.
Stressing that AI is set to influence all aspects of life and governance in the coming years, with no sector remaining untouched, Aref pointed out investments in AI are investments in the nation’s future.
He praised the continuous efforts of Iranian officials in the field for their regular AI-focused meetings and progress made since the current administration took office in August 2024.
