Official: Iran aims to boost women’s role in knowledge-based companies

Khadijeh Joda, an Advisor on Women’s Affairs at the Iranian Vice Presidency for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy, announced new initiatives aimed at increasing women’s participation in knowledge-based companies and enhancing their presence in leadership positions.
According to the Communications and Information Center of the Vice Presidency, the “Iranian Women: Untold Stories” exhibition, held on March 10, 2025, provided a platform to showcase the capabilities of female entrepreneurs and innovators.
The event, organized with the participation of high-ranking officials and foreign ambassadors, aimed to create networking opportunities and highlight the contributions of Iranian women across various fields.
Joda emphasized that Iranian women have played a pivotal role throughout the country’s history and that their presence in the technology sector has seen remarkable growth in recent years.
She pointed to their increasing involvement in artificial intelligence, biotechnology, nanotechnology, and software development, noting that while many countries struggle with gender gaps in these fields, Iran has actively integrated women into its innovation ecosystem.
She highlighted the participation of 13 knowledge-based and creative companies at the event, with international representation from 17 countries, underscoring the global significance of the initiative.
Currently, only about 10 percent of knowledge-based companies in Iran are led by women. Joda stressed that this figure does not reflect their true potential and that the Vice Presidency aims to increase this number, ensuring a more inclusive innovation ecosystem where gender is not a barrier to leadership and decision-making.
