Iranian VP: Iran on cusp of leap in quantum and photonic technologies

Iran’s Vice President for Science, Technology and Knowledge-based Economy, Hossein Afshin, has underlined the importance of focusing on scientific fields that build the future, saying extensive plans are afoot to develop quantum and photonic technologies in the country.
According to the public relations office of the vice-presidency, Afshin made those comments during a ceremony to unveil the “National Open-Source AI Platform” at the end of the Persian year of 1403.
He said AI infrastructure and platforms are critical components for national AI development.
He then referred to measures to put in place appropriate infrastructure in the country, saying that the infrastructure is undergoing security procedures.
Afshin noted that Iran has a national software platform for AI, which allows it to use internal algorithms written in various programming languages without relying on foreign IPs.
According to the vice president, this platform was created thanks to relentless efforts by a 100-member team of Iranian researchers.
Asked how the National AI Organization will continue its functions, Afshin said the issue is currently being decided by the government, and the details will be officially announced later.
“Regardless of what happens to the organization or my office, we will continue down this path forcefully with our goal being to create significant change in a short time,” the vice president stressed.
