Iran launches project to treat cancer in children with CAR T-cell therapy

Iran has launched a project to treat cancer-stricken children using stem cell technology based on CAR T-cell therapy.

Joining the launch ceremony, Iranian Vice-President for Science, Technology and Knowledge-based Economy Ruhollah Dehghani Firouzabadi said stem cell technology will be a priority in the health sector in the future.
The senior official said Iranian scientists have made great achievements in the fields of regenerative medicine and gene therapy.
Dehghani Firouzabadi emphasized the need for investors in the private sector to play a role in efforts to develop the country’s stem cell technology.
For the first time in Iran, scientists, in cooperation with researchers and knowledge-based companies, have developed a treatment for a type of leukemia in children based on cell and gene therapy.
The method benefits from antigen receptor T cells or CAR-T treatment, helping T lymphocytes to fight certain types of cancer.
