Iranian researcher develops innovative microfluidic technology to boost fertility treatment success

An Iranian researcher who recently returned from abroad has developed two innovative products to significantly improve the success rate of infertility treatments using microfluidic technology.

Dr. Adel Ghiass, CEO of the knowledge-based company Behzist Saz and faculty member at Tarbiat Modares University, announced the launch of these products, which enhance conventional methods such as IVF, ICSI, and IUI. That’s according to the office of the Iranian Vice-Presidency for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy.

The office said these homegrown technologies manipulate fluids at the microscale to isolate high-quality, healthy sperm in just 30 minutes without the need for centrifugation. This simple and rapid process avoids cellular damage and represents a major advancement over traditional techniques.

Dr. Ghias, who completed his PhD at the University of Hampton in the UK, credited the “Connect” program for supporting his return to Iran. Through this initiative, he established his company and fulfilled his mandatory military service through research-based projects.

He underlined the vital role of the support provided by the office of the Iranian vice presidency to empower returning experts and facilitate collaboration in the medical technology sector.

The Connect platform, he noted, helped showcase their products and foster partnerships among expatriate scientists committed to solving national health challenges.
