Iran publishes report on possible future scientific, technological trends in society

The first volume of a series of reports prepared under Iran’s National Science and Technology Foresight Plan has been published.

The report was released by the secretariat handling the affairs of the national scheme put forward by the Presidential Office’s Department for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy.

The report (Macro-Trends and Future Trends) focuses on social, economic, political, technological and environmental developments.

“Trends and macro-trends are significant for both governments and enterprises as they form invaluable insights into consumers’ ever-changing needs and preferences and also social, economic and technological forces that form the world,” reads the preamble to the report.

The need for a far-sighted mindset and moving toward a knowledge-based society is an issue which has been brought into the spotlight by policy-makers in the domain of science, technology and innovation in different countries.

In recent years, the experience of developed countries has shown that programs such as the National Science and Technology Foresight Plan seeks to achieve the key objective of creating an intelligent and well-informed society through offering information and creating intelligence among different beneficiaries.
