Iran hosts first International Nanotechnology Olympiad for students with 20 countries participating

The first International Nanotechnology Olympiad for school students is being hosted virtually by Iran, with participants from 20 countries across five continents.
The event aims to promote nanoscience and nanotechnology education among young students, building on Iran’s 16 years of experience in organizing national-level Nano Olympiads.
According to the Vice Presidency for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy, Afshin Ramzi, Secretary of the Permanent Secretariat of the International Nano Olympiad, said the idea for an international competition emerged after the successful organization of 16 national editions in Iran.
He noted that while many countries are active in nanotechnology at the graduate level, few have developed similar programs for students.
Ramzi added that the permanent secretariat for both the student and university-level Olympiads is based in Iran’s Special Headquarters for Nanotechnology Development. With the support of the Young Scholars Club, Iran hosted this first student edition virtually.
Participants from countries including Germany, Malaysia, the UK, the US, India, Australia, and several others took part in an online test on September 28. Competitors were then asked to submit videos presenting economic models to address environmental challenges. Final results will be announced next week.
