Iran launches polyurethane research center in port city of Mahshahr

A senior official with Iran’s Polymer and Petrochemical Institute says the country has opened a polyurethane research center in port city of Mahshahr in order to promote the technology by recruiting the elite and university professors in the field.

Speaking to ISNA, Seyyed Mohammad Mortazavi said the center was established following the signing of a cooperation agreement between a knowledge-based company, which provides raw material, and the Polymer and Petrochemical Institute.

He said the objectives are training expert staff, creating study opportunities for young professors, establishing a research field for doctoral and post-doctoral students, and recruiting elites in this industry.

Mortazavi said the polyurethane technology is used in industries such as shoemaking, automobile manufacturing, paints and coatings, as well as furniture.

Iran can act as a polyurethane hub and export relevant products and technical know-how, he added.
