Seventh BRICS Research Infrastructure and Mega-Science Projects meeting opens in Tehran

The seventh BRICS Working Group on Research Infrastructure and Mega-Science Projects opened on Monday in Tehran, with representatives from member countries attending through Wednesday.
Hosted by Iran, the three-day meeting is organized with support from the International Science and Technology Cooperation Organization and the Presidential Center for Transformation and Progress.
It brings together scientific and technology delegations from BRICS member nations, including Iran, Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Russia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates.
The meeting aims to promote collaboration on large-scale scientific projects, advanced research infrastructures, and shared technological initiatives, such as high-performance computing centers, particle accelerators, observatories, biobanks, and other mega-science ventures.
The first day featured opening speeches by Iranian representatives highlighting national research capacities and the knowledge-based economy, followed by presentations from other member countries.
Russia provided a report on the outcomes and implementation of the previous session held in Moscow.
During the following days, delegations will discuss joint projects, exchange experiences, plan future collaborations, and review a framework agreement for scientific cooperation.
Participants will also visit Iran’s advanced research centers, including the National Brain Laboratory and the Institute for Fundamental Sciences, to explore opportunities for deeper international partnerships.
