Iranian expert involved in ‘connect’ program wins Mustafa Prize

Seyyed Ali Mousavi Shayeq, an expert involved in the “connect” program, who is currently a professor at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, has won the Mustafa Prize, which is offered by the Mustafa (PBUH) Science and Technology Foundation.

The closing ceremony of the KANS Scientific Competition was held by the Mustafa (PBUH) Science and Technology Foundation simultaneously with the INOTEX exhibition.

In the final stage of the second KANS Scientific Competition, selected teams presented their plans to the referees, who ultimately picked six top plans.

In the health sector, a plan presented by Dr. Seyyed Ali Mousavi Shayeq, who teaches at the University of Medical Sciences, and works at the Center for Orthopedic Research and Qa’em Hospital’s Clinical Research Development, and his team to design and build a COVID-19 vaccine-manufacturing machine on the laboratory and industrial scale using microfluidics technology, was selected as the top plan.

Mousavi Shayeq is one of the Iranian expatriates who have returned to Iran under the “Cooperation with Expatriate Iranian Experts” or “connect” program.

The plan was ratified by the Iranian Vice Presidency for Science and Technology. The machines built can be used to manufacture all types of Lipid and polymer medications, and in line with this, the Riz-Samaneh Behboud Darman Company was established in 2020 with the goal of producing the machines on an industrial scale.
In this round of the competition, 658 plans by scientists from 25 countries, including 233 plans in the health and medical technology field, 229 plans in the field of water, the environment and energy, 31 plans in the field of mine and mining industries, 47 plans in the field of economy, banking and financing, 77 plans in the field of information technology and communications, and 41 plans in the field of transportation were received by the competition’s secretariat.

After surveying the plans in several stages, the referee committee picked six scientific solutions and ideas as the top ones.

Winners received prizes and privileges such as the KANS medal and a commemorative plaque, a 30-gram gold bar, scientific research funding worth 2,000 dollars, and a special privilege to use the Mustafa (PBUH) Foundation’s two valuable platforms of STEP and EISA.
