Iranian-made system to survey health of structures

The Structure Health Surveying System makes it possible to constantly examine the defects in a structure via a system attached to the structure.

Amin Pour-Kabirian, a member of the management board of the Houshmand Hesgar Pishro Engineering Company, said the Structure Health Surveying System is a combination of sensors and processors on a structure, and explained, “The Structure Health Surveying System determines the health of the structure, in terms of whether there are defects, where they are located, what their intensity is, and what the remaining strength is.”

Constant surveying to find defects

The Structure Health Surveying System is a non-destructive test of structures. It constantly and automatically inspects the structure for defects via a system attached to the structure that determines its health moment by moment.
The Structure Health Surveying System presents information about the health of the structure, its reliability, the status of its defects, and its consistency. The Structure Health Surveying System reduces the costs and time of repair and maintenance, which are caused by the dismantling of the pieces. Furthermore, since it changes the time-based maintenance system to a status-based one, it makes it possible to do inspections based on the condition of the structure rather than after a certain number of work hours.
A large-scale inspection operation is necessary only when the Structure Health Surveying System alarm goes out, and that reduces the costs of repair and maintenance.
All industrial structures and parts should be within the designer’s vision during their time of operation. This is while sometimes environmental and destructive causes can do harm to the lifespan and the health of the structure or the part.

Avoiding hefty costs to the structure

Problems such as budding and the growth of cracks in a structure can under destructive environmental circumstances lead to the structure’s complete failure. If such defects are made visible after their occurrence, they will cause heavy and sometimes irreparable damage. That is why structure health surveying systems are used to avoid such occurrences.
Pour-Kabirian, who is a manager involved in the knowledge-based industry, said, “Creating employment, reducing energy consumption, decreasing costs, and finally bringing about profitability are among the most important benefits of the Iranian-made Structure Health Surveying System.
