Iran, Pakistan set to boost science, tech cooperation

A delegation of Pakistani scientists and academic figures has visited Iran’s House of Innovation and Technology (iHiT) in the Iranian capital Tehran,  expressing willingness to step up ties with Iran, the Iranian Vice President’s Office for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy said.

Amir Hossein Mirabadi, the head of the Center for International Science and Technology Interactions, affiliated with the vice president’s office, welcomed the Pakistani delegation, saying Iran considers the visit as an opportunity to find common grounds with Pakistan aimed at promoting cooperation with the neighboring country.

Mirabadi added Iran is aware of Pakistan’s potentials in science and technology, and stressed the role of knowledge-based companies in bolstering both countries’ relations in those areas.

Mukhtar Ahmed, the chairman of Pakistan’s Higher Education Commission, who headed the Pakistani delegation, said, “Iran and Pakistan have similar problems and challenges, and these common issues can connect us and serve as the basis for mutual cooperation.”

He also said the US-led sanctions have been a blessing in disguise for Iran as they have catapulted the country to achieve more success in the scientific fields.

Ahmed suggested that the Iranian and Pakistani academic centers exchange more professors and students in the future.
