Iran proposes leading role in BRICS scientific mega-projects

Iran presented key proposals to strengthen technological and scientific cooperation among BRICS member states on the second day of the 7th Meeting of the BRICS Working Group on Research Infrastructures and Scientific Mega-Projects, hosted in Tehran.
According to the Iranian Vice Presidency for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy, the meeting was organized by the Office for Technology Exchange of the Organization for the Development of International Scientific and Technological Cooperation.
Delegates participated both in person and online at Parsian Azadi Hotel in Tehran.
During the session, member countries shared proposals aimed at expanding joint research and technological collaboration.
Iran outlined a series of initiatives focused on developing shared scientific infrastructure and positioning itself as a central partner in major research projects.
Among Iran’s main proposals was cooperation on large-scale research projects, including the development of synchrotron facilities, which are advanced particle accelerators used in scientific research.
Iran also emphasized collaboration related to the Iranian National Observatory.
Another key proposal involved linking Iran’s national laboratory network with those of other BRICS members to facilitate shared access to advanced equipment, expertise and research facilities.
Representatives from Brazil and South Africa also presented proposals, particularly in the area of joint cooperation in astroparticle physics laboratories, highlighting growing interest in collaborative high-level scientific research within the BRICS framework.
