Venezuelan minister: Caracas welcomes knowledge-based Iranian companies

Visiting Venezuelan Minister of Transport Ramon Velasquezm, in a tour of Iran’s House of Innovation and Technology (iHiT) in the Iranian capital Tehran, said his country receives Iranian knowledge-based companies with open arms.

In a meeting on Wednesday with Mehdi Ghlaenoei, the head of the Presidency’s Center for International, Scientific and Technological Cooperation, Velasquez highlighted Iran’s capabilities in various fields of technology, especially in pharmaceutics and medical equipment.

He also said Venezuela needs Iranian technology and products to develop its ties with the Islamic Republic and render US-led sanctions ineffective.

Velasquez said the government of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro gives knowledge-based Iranian companies all-out support to take part in the technological areas in Venezuela.

The direct flights between Tehran and Caracas, launched in July, can provide the basis for stepped-up commercial cooperation between the two countries, he added.

Meanwhile, Ghlaenoei expressed Iranian state-run and private companies’ readiness to transfer technology and products by knowledge-based companies to Venezuela, in line with their policy of boosting exports to Latin America.

He said, however, obstacles related to transfer of money due to US embargoes need to be addressed in order to develop business relations of companies and move towards a joint strategic path.
