Iran hails Africa as ‘strategic partner’ in technology, innovation ecosystem

Iran has declared Africa a strategic partner in its technology and innovation ecosystem and expressed full readiness to expand technological cooperation with Ethiopia, according to the head of Iran’s Organization for the Development of International Scientific and Technological Cooperation.

Hossein Rouzbeh made the remarks during a meeting with Tagesse Chafo Dullo, Speaker of Ethiopia’s House of People’s Representatives, emphasizing Tehran’s commitment to strengthening technology-based ties with African countries, particularly Ethiopia.

Rouzbeh said localization and self-reliance in technology have long been core priorities for the Islamic Republic, noting that Iran has shifted from being a recipient of foreign technological dominance to developing indigenous technologies.

He highlighted domestically developed technologies as key to safeguarding Iran’s territorial integrity.

Describing African nations as long-term and reliable partners, Rouzbeh said the continent holds vast material, human and intellectual resources that can support mutual development.

He stressed that technology can serve as a platform for cooperation, peace and sustainable security rather than domination.

Rouzbeh said Iran’s technology ecosystem includes more than 10,000 knowledge-based companies, around 1,200 of which have export capabilities and are prepared to share expertise and pursue joint production with African partners.

He added that Iran is ready to launch broad cooperation with Ethiopia, ranging from science and technology policy to knowledge transfer, training and joint product development.
