Indonesia emphasizes expanding scientific, technological cooperation with Iran

The Indonesian Ambassador to Tehran, Rulian Shah Sumirat, highlighted the potential for enhanced bilateral collaboration in science, technology, innovation, and technology transfer with Iran, underlining the new Indonesian government’s commitment to strengthening ties.

During a meeting with Hossein Rouzbeh, Head of the Organization for Development of International Scientific and Technological Cooperation, Sumirat praised Iran’s scientific and technological achievements showcased at the Iran Science and Technology Exhibition, describing them as only a fraction of the country’s capabilities in the global innovation ecosystem.

The ambassador welcomed the inauguration of the Iran Innovation and Technology House in Jakarta, calling it a key step toward fostering joint projects and facilitating technology transfer.

He emphasized that with populations of over 90 million in Iran and nearly 280 million in Indonesia, both countries offer significant markets for innovative products and a substantial human resource pool for collaborative development.

Sumirat highlighted Indonesia’s priorities in human resource development, education, food security, and energy security, linking these to the advancement of science and technology.

He noted Indonesia’s expertise in robotic surgeries, telemedicine, and biotechnology, offering collaboration opportunities, particularly for remote healthcare solutions.

Proposals included establishing an Iranian business and technology center in Jakarta, joint workshops and exhibitions, and sustainable communication channels between institutions and tech companies.
He also suggested leveraging BRICS membership to expand multilateral scientific and technological cooperation.
