Foreign exchange earnings of $18 million by localizing a new generation of industrial uninterruptible power supplies

A knowledge-based company has localized a new generation of industrial uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) and achieved a power capacity of up to 400 kilovolt-amperes, in addition to meeting the needs of the country’s sensitive industries, especially in the oil and gas sector, and has provided the basis for savings and foreign exchange earnings of about $18 million.

According to the Communication and Information Center of the Presidential Vice-President for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy, Mojtaba Mojard, a research and development expert at the “Pars Kavir Arvand” knowledge-based company, referring to the reasons for the beginning of this process, said: Sanctions, the cessation of after-sales services by some foreign manufacturers, and currency problems were among the most important factors that led us to domestic production of this equipment.

According to him, the company’s products are mainly used in the oil and gas industries, but they are also used in other sensitive industries. As equipment used in strategic industries is designed and manufactured based on indigenous knowledge, the level of resilience and passive defense in these sectors will increase.

Majer also pointed to the company’s participation in major oil industry projects and said: Pars Kavir Arvand has been present in important projects in oil fields, including the Yadavaran field.

Referring to the experience of some foreign companies cutting off after-sales services after the sanctions were tightened, this research and development expert added: This issue has caused many oil and petrochemical companies to move towards using domestically manufactured UPSs. Two main factors are important to customers; first, stable access to after-sales services and second, increasing the passive defense coefficient in industrial systems.

He also explained the technical features of the new generation of UPSs produced by the company: These systems are the result of a combination of power engineering knowledge, advanced control, and industrial electronics. Their design uses technologies such as pulse width modulation rectifier (PWM Rectifier) to improve power factor and reduce harmonic distortion, vector control and advanced harmonic compensation to increase system stability, as well as intelligent parallelization of IGBT switches to increase power capacity up to 400 kVA.

He cited high power capacity, appropriate power factor, high efficiency, and very low current THD as the most important advantages of this product, and noted: The development and production of these systems, in addition to meeting the needs of domestic industries, has saved the country about $18 million in foreign exchange.
