Iranian knowledge-based firm develops solar panel cleaning robot at 40% lower cost

An Iranian technology company has designed and produced an automated solar panel cleaning robot, addressing the 5-10% efficiency loss in solar power plants due to panel dirt, while offering the product at 40% lower cost than imported models. The domestically made robot has been available in the market since 2023.
Hamed Nazarpour, Deputy of Business Development at Moj Fanavari Hooshmand (Smart Technology Wave), highlighted the growing importance of solar power in Iran amid energy shortages.
“Manual cleaning or the use of household washing devices is time-consuming and inefficient. Our robot, fully designed by our R&D team, uses less water, provides better after-sales support, and effectively keeps panels clean,” he said.
Nazarpour explained that dirty panels can reduce solar plant efficiency by 5-10%, and continuous cleaning with the robot maximizes electricity production.
He also noted that Iran plans to install around 10 gigawatts of solar power capacity by next year, comprising thousands of panels that require regular maintenance.
The solar panel cleaning robot is undergoing the final stages of knowledge-based certification, with its patent already registered.
While previously only foreign models were available, this locally produced robot offers a cost-effective and homegrown solution for boosting solar energy output in Iran.
