Iran joins group of surgical blade manufacturers

The CEO of the Iranian knowledge-based company Matlab Electronic Paydar, Shahriar Homayoun Farmanesh, has said Iran is now producing medical equipment using indigenous technology.

Farmanesh added that a product of the firm is a blood transfusion pump, noting that most of the times, it’s impossible to inject blood normally because blood contains red globules which could break during normal injection. In other cases, the patient’s veins do not allow normal injection while in emergency situations, the patient may need a large amount of blood in an urgent manner, and the drop injection method does not work under such circumstances when a blood injection pump is useful.

The Iranian pump produced by the knowledge-based Matlab Electronic Paydar at half the price of equivalent Austrian and American products are similar to their foreign peers in terms of quality.

Another product manufactured by the company is a surgical blade that despite its simple appearance, requires a complex technological process. There are 4 technological bottlenecks through which these surgical blades are produced including the steel heating process.

According to the managers of Matlab Electronic Paydar, currently 6 companies in the world manufacture surgical blades, and Iran is the newest member of the club.
