Iran Veep: NGOs instrumental in country’s scientific progress

A top Iranian official says NGOs, namely scientific institutions, play a key role in bringing about a scientific and technological overhaul in the country and taking a fresh major step in that sector.

“In his meeting with the elite, Iran’s Leader touched upon the software movement and said, ‘we proposed the idea of a software movement twenty years ago, which was followed by good developments in the science production sector in the country’,” said Rouhollah Dehqani, the Vice-President for Scientific, Technological and Knowledge-based Economy.

He said the software movement, as the Leader noted, led to universities thriving, activities by scientific circles burgeoning and knowledge-based companies being formed.

The official added plans should be formulated for the country’s scientific movement in the future and for investments to be made in that sector.

“I believe the achievements of our knowledge-based firms and scientists today are the result of 20 years of investment made in this sector in the past,” he explained.
