Strengthening tech ties: Syrian PM sees Iran as key partner for Arab markets

During the visit of the Syrian Prime Minister to Iran’s Innovation and Technology House (iHiT) in Tehran, a strong emphasis was placed on Syria being the gateway for Iranian technological products into the Arab world markets. 

The visit underscored Syria’s interest in expanding joint technological cooperation with Iran. 

Accompanied by Ruhollah Dehghani, the Vice-President for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy, the Syrian Prime Minister explored international exhibitions in Tehran, where Dehghani highlighted Syria’s potential as a crucial access point to Arab markets for Iranian tech products. Highlighting the rich history of economic collaboration between Iran and Syria, Dehghani expressed confidence in the success of joint production programs between the two nations. 

Despite harsh sanctions, Iran has made significant strides toward self-sufficiency, particularly in technology, boasting over 10,000 knowledge-based companies that contribute extensively to sectors like agriculture, medicine, construction, and more, Dehghani stressed.

Acknowledging the historical ties and geographical proximity between Iran and Syria, the Iranian Vice-President underscored the significance of focusing on joint cooperation in science, technology, and the knowledge-based economy. 

Hossein Arnous, the Prime Minister of Syria, praised Iran’s technological advancements showcased at iHiT, expressing pride in Iran’s progress and hoping for a branch of these advancements to extend into Syria. 

He expressed optimism about transferring these technologies to Syria via business delegations and associations focused on commerce and agriculture. 

Arnous invited Dehghani to visit Syria, aiming to explore and establish areas for technological transfer and the development of joint products. Highlighting Syria’s role as a communication corridor to the Arab world, Arnous assured that Syrian territory could be a significant hub for the distribution of Iranian knowledge-based products and services across Arab markets. 

Arnous further engaged with Iranian tech companies housed in iHiT, discussing opportunities to introduce these products into Syrian and Arab markets, emphasizing the potential for collaborative research, technology exchange, and the expansion of cooperation between research centers in Syria and Iran.
