Unveiling online power transmission system for electric cars, Sattari: Car industry should welcome innovation by knowledge-based companies

Sattari: Car industry should welcome innovation by knowledge-based companies
Iranian Vice President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari has unveiled a major national plan for an online power transmission system for electric cars.

During the event for the unveiling of the Iranian-manufactured system, Sattari emphasized that the transportation industry, car manufacturers in particular, should welcome innovation by knowledge-based and creative companies so that the field becomes up-to-date and competitive.

Sattari said, “Good technology has fortunately been developed by knowledge-based companies in the field of transportation, propeller, and power transmission in recent years. What we’re seeing today is one such technology. The industrialization and entry of these technologies into the market necessitates reception by the car manufacturing industry and the paving of the way for the spillover of these technologies into the industry.”

Abreast of the world in the field of the wireless charging of vehicles

Mohammad-Sadeq Vaezzadeh said the major national plan for online power transmission to electric cars would solve the issue of charging vehicles, adding , “Batteries are one major challenge in developing electric vehicles, because batteries are expensive, heavy, and very problematic when it comes to recycling. The charging of the battery is time-consuming and limits the car’s navigation. That’s why batteries have been made smaller and power is transmitted to the energy-receptor in the base of the vehicle wirelessly through an electric system that is installed underneath passageways.”

He said six advanced countries were active in the semi-industrial and industrial phases and added, “The expectation is that the plan will become commercialized within two years, because it has such potential. And we also will strive to get this plan to the industrial and later commercial and market levels.”

Developing the online power transmission plan

The plan took almost two years to implement and was supported by the Iranian Vice Presidency for Science and Technology as a major national technology plan. A team of 10 students and graduates of Tehran University have been involved in the plan.
The system can be used in the field of online power transmission to trains, electric actuators, and vehicles. The mechanism sees power transmitted through the air and reach a moving vehicle, so there will be no need for a stop for recharge.
