VP Sattari: Iranian banks should open innovation centers in universities

Iran’s Vice President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari urges banks to found innovation centers at the country’s universities, saying, “It’s a pity that our students consider immigration.”

At an unveiling ceremony for Bank Melli’s Innovation Center, Sattari said, “In today’s banking system, no one is after an increase in the number of branches, but they instead seek new technologies. Banking in its new form will live on, but the banks will not.”
“A country that has four million university students is in need of such a [modern] banking system and the traditional players will be losers. Now, the issue is that everyone should invest in the new networks,” the senior official added.
“We need to benefit from all the geniuses in this field and they should enter the banks,” Sattari said, adding that Bank Melli becomes a role model for other Iranian banks by launching the Innovation Center.
“Bank Melli’s inauguration of the Innovation Center is a great measure. The center should attract more geniuses. We will keep up our cooperation with the bank,” the vice president said.
Banks can directly invest in the knowledge-based sector and open technology and innovation funds, the official added.
“We are set to take a leap forward in the field of knowledge-based economy. This is where the education and the capabilities of the workforce take on an important role,” according to Sattari.
